Tongue Piercing Aftercare
Tongue piercings generally take 2-4 weeks to heal completely.
The following aftercare regime should be followed until the piercing has healed.
Within hours following a piercing the tongue will start to feel tingly, then become sore and some stiffness and puffiness may be noticed. This will generally last 3-5 days, during which time sipping cold drinks or sucking ice cubes will provide some relief and help to minimize any swelling.
The piercee may find speech and eating awkward for a few days until the mouth gets used to the shape of the jewellery and any soreness has gone.
Normal eating habits need not be affected if care is taken, although crunchy foods, spices, vinegar, etc, should be avoided for the first week as they may cause discomfort. Try to eat normally as starvation and subsequent debilitation may slow the healing process.
Always rinse thoroughly with an antibacterial mouthwash after every meal and preferably a few extra times during each day, dilute 50:50 in water if discomfort is experienced.
Avoid oral sex for two weeks following piercing.
Remember, a clean piercing is a healthy piercing !
